ANNOUNCEMENT: CONTINUING TEMPORARY ACCOMMODATION IN THE NORTH BLOCK |
The University of London informed the Institute of Classical Studies that the whole of the South Block of the Senate House, where the ICS and Societies have had their offices and Library since 1997, had to be rewired during the 2005-2006 session. Removal has now taken place, and the Library re-opened in the North Block on 16 January 2006. It is now clear that this evacuation will last until at least 2009. The disruption that this is causing to the ICS and Societies’ offices is considerable, but will of course affect even more seriously the ICS/Joint Library. It will also mean that the Societies’ meetings will not be held in the rooms we have used in the past. If you wish to visit the Library you should enter the Loggia under the central tower of the Senate House and turn left if coming from Malet Street or right if coming from Russell Square. Go through the swing doors at the end of the Loggia and take the lift on the left-hand side immediately opposite the entrance to the Institute of Historical Research, and come out on the second floor. For the Society’s office, go through the swing doors at the end of the Loggia on the ground floor and continue straight through, almost to the far end, and take one of the large lifts on the right up to the third floor. Our office is Room 319, straight ahead down the corridor opposite the lift. All contact details (postal address, telephone, fax, emails) will remain the same. Members, especially from abroad, who plan to come for a period of study in the Library are urged to check this website for the latest information. All the staff here, both in the ICS and in the Societies, will do their best to minimise inconvenience to members and readers, but it is inevitable that the period in the north block of Senate House will not be easy. |
