Membership Rates

Membership is open to all those interested in any aspect of Hellenic Studies, and prospectuses and application forms are available from the Secretary. There are various categories of membership available:

2008 RATES

FULL MEMBERSHIP: UK £41 (£40 for Direct Debit payors) or US $82.

STUDENT ASSOCIATE MEMBERSHIP: UK £22 or US $44.

This category of membership is available to undergraduate and graduate students registered at Universities and other institutions of higher education of the United Kingdom and of any other country in the world (including the Open University), but is limited to six years, even if the member is registered as a student for a longer period. After six years of Student Associate membership the full member rate applies.

LIFE MEMBERSHIP: UK £200 or US $400.

Life membership is available to those who are 65 or over and who have been members of the Society for at least five years. The one-off payment secures subscription for the rest of the member's life.

LIBRARIES and OTHER INSTITUTIONS: UK £60 or US $120 or €120 per annum.

This category of membership does not include any use of the library.

UK SCHOOLS: UK £60 per annum.

Schools and sixth form colleges in the United Kingdom who join as institutional members may nominate one person to use the Joint Library.

CORPORATE MEMBERSHIP: £200 or $400 or €400 per annum.

Corporate Membership is open to companies wishing to support the Society: the company name is listed in the JHS and companies are invited to nominate up to five members of their staff who will be able to use the Library.

Membership Application

You can download a membership application form here in either MS Word (.doc) or Acrobat Reader (.pdf) format.

Methods of Payment

Please note that sterling (cash/cheque) and US dollars (cheques only) and EUROs (paid directly to out bank account) are the only currencies acceptable.

CHEQUES should be made payable to the Hellenic Society.

DIRECT DEBIT: Members with UK bank accounts are encouraged to pay their subscriptions by Direct Debit, a form for which will become available to download here. Direct debit payors receive a small reduction on the subscription amount. Annual direct debit for existing subscriptions are collected once a year, in early January; but new subscribers may have their direct debit activated as soon as they join. We no longer accept bankers orders. Please contact the Society Office for more details, or alternatively you can download a direct debit form here.

CREDIT CARD: The Society accepts payment by Visa, Mastercard and JCB.

Gift Aid

Following new regulations that came into force on 6 April 2000, it will be possible for the Society to reclaim from the Inland Revenue the basic rate income tax members pay in respect of their annual subscription, if they complete the necessary declaration and return it to us. Please contact the Society Office for more details, or alternatively you can download a Gift Aid form here.

Members’ Copies of the JOURNAL OF HELLENIC STUDIES and ARCHAEOLOGICAL REPORTS

Vol. 128 (2008) of the Journal of Hellenic Studies, Vol. 54 (20067-2008) of Archaeological Reports and the Report for the Session 2007-2008 will be published in November 2008 and dispatched to all paid-up, Honorary and Life members of the Society. If you have any enquiries about the Society's publications, please contact the Secretary.

Collection of Journals from the Library

Members who are likely to be in London in late November or soon after are invited to collect their copies of JHS and AR from the Joint Library desk. If you are already listed as a collector, your membership records will have been adjusted to show that no JHS/AR package should be posted to you in November. This instruction will stay in place until you instruct us to change it. Collection of the Journals by members saves the Society considerable expense and we would encourage all members to help us in this manner if they are able. Please let the Hellenic Society office know if you would like your name to be added to the list of journal collectors.
